Mustela Skin Care Products + A Giveaway

I remember that a month after I gave birth to my daughter Bianca, she developed severe skin rashes all over her face, neck and body.  I couldn’t bear seeing her like that at that time as I can only imagine how uncomfortable it made her feel. It didn’t help also that three months after, the skin on her head started peeling off together with her tiny cap of baby hair too.
Being a young fist time mom then, I was at a complete loss on what to do. Good thing her Pedia was very patient with me. It turned out that early onset of asthma started manifesting itself on her skin. She recommended for us to use lactacyd blue diluted in water for her bath as she is too young to use steroidal creams. But then that didn’t work and I didn’t like using it on her.  I wasn’t comfortable with the thought that it contains strong chemicals as it has a very strong scent. We also tried using Johnson’s baby bath and later on Cetaphil but even those failed to satisfy me as the rashes didn’t completely disappear.
My mom’s friend who’s working in the states, upon learning about Bianca’s condition, sent over a box full of baby skin care products for us to try.  She sent me an Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment, Aveeno Anti-Itch Cream  and some Mustela products which include  Mustela Hair & Body Wash, Baby Shampoo, Stelatopia Emollient Cream and  Stelatopia Cleansing Cream.  I didn’t know where she got them but I was glad that she did send the Mustela products over because after using the stelatopia creams and the hair and body wash, Bianca’s face and body cleared out of rashes. Even her cradle cap softened and gently peeled off.  That was my first introduction to Mustela and I have since become a great fan of the product. I actually felt extremely sad when our Mustela supply ran out as they were not available locally back then.

Mustela is a 60 year old French brand whose mission is to provide moms and babies with the safest skin care products that would address their specific skin needs. Since protection of mommy and baby’s skin is Mustela’s ultimate concern, it uses only ingredients of natural origin and leaves out harmful chemicals typically found in many skincare ranges such as parabens, phenoxyethanol and phthalates.
Mustela products are tested and formulated under strict medical supervision.  They were developed under close collaboration with healthcare professionals (e.g. pharmacist, dermatologist, allergologist, toxicologist and gynaecologist) so they are guaranteed safe to use on newborns, babies and children. Now on its 60th year, Mustela continues to improve itself by coming up with new innovation and scientific breakthroughs in skin care treatment for babies and mothers.  And because of this it has now become the leading skin care product for moms and babies in Europe.
Mustela’s complete range of products  caters to the specific skin care needs of  not just newborns, babies, and children but of new and expectant mothers as well.  All of its four skin care range are hypoallergenic and tested following the strictest standards of quality, high tolerance, and optimum safety.
Mustela 9 Months
This range is specially formulated to accompany mothers during the pregnancy and post-pregnancy periods where the skin undergoes delicate changes. This is the perfect Baby Shower gift that you can give to a preggy friend.

Mustela Bébé
This complete range of dermo-cosmetic products are  specifically formulated to protect newborn and baby’s sensitive skin during daily hygiene, bath time, diaper change and skin protection routine. I remember bathing Bianca using the hair and body bath, and it was such pleasurable experience. And since my daughter and I can’t tolerate very strong perfume due to our asthma, we absolutely love the alcohol-free Musti Eau de Soin from this range. The scent is light and tender, not too overpowering.

Mustela Dermo-Pediatrics
This range answers the specific skin problems of newborns, babies and children such as dry skin with eczema, hypersensitive and intolerant skin, irritated areas, nappy rash and cradle cap. It will be good to always have a stock of Stelatria cream on hand as it is the perfect home cure for sudden rash breakouts, burns, chicken pox and insect stings.

Mustela Sun Protection
The Mustela Sun Protection range protects the fragile and intolerant skin of babies and children against those harmful UV rays. They also contain 100% mineral or organo-mineral screens. Perfect as go to skin protection during hot summer days.

There’s always a Mustela product that would answer your baby’s skin care needs.  And what’s good about it is that now, they are available locally.  You need not ask your relatives from overseas to purchase them for you. I greatly recommend Mustela products to anyone as I saw for myself how they have effectively cured my daughter’s skin problem.  I always believe that since it is good for the babies, it is  good for adults too (*wink*wink) like the Stelatopia creams, the Musti spray, the skin freshner etc. 🙂 You can now grab them at the following shops:

Shopping Is Definitely More Fun In The Philippines

I am a big fan of shopping, may it be the just drool-but-do-not-buy kind of shopping aka window shopping, to the shop-like-there’s-no-tomorrow kind of shopping, to the quick-fillout-order-form-then-click-buy kinda shopping.
In my humble opinion, the Philippines right now is definitely one of the best places in the world  to shop what with the Philippine retail market being as it is today–dynamic, vibrant, customer driven.
Big credit of course goes to the Philippine Retailers Association, who for the past years, has been continuously supporting and empowering retailers, suppliers, CEOs and top level managers of upcoming and successful brands to become at par if not better than their international counterparts through organized conferences and forums.
And  true to its commitment of further boost the know how and skills of retail professionals under its clout, PRA’s much awaited 21st National Retail Conference and Stores Asia Expo (NRCE), is set to be held on August 9 to 10 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. With no less than Mr. William Schultz, President and CEO of Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc. (which incidentally is celebrating 100 Years of Happiness), as the keynote speaker, the event promises to start and end on a happy note.

Taking its cue from the Philippine government’s well conceived tourism campaign, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines”, this year’s conference will zero in on elevating customer shopping experience.  It gathers people behind companies with excellent track records in customer satisfaction to share their tips and secrets to successful brand-customer relationship.
The plenary sessions were designed in such a way that conference attendees will be provided with insights on the changing demands and tastes of customers and knowledge of how retail entertainment and store design can help improve customer shopping experience.
Here’s a run down of topics that will be discussed in this year’s conference:
First Day:

  • morning panel discussion on digital marketing and online commerce
  • panel discussion on how to address the  influx of international brands in the Philippines
  • presentation on “Global Brands in Local Shores: How Local Brands Can Compete and Succeed vis-à-vis International Brands” (Filipino brands that have remained successful in spite of the challenges posed by international brands)

Second Day:

  •  panel discussion entitled  “Retail Entertainment: Creating a New Level of Customer Experience,” ( how shopping and leisure are intertwined)
  •   panel discussion entitled “The New Turks of Retailing,” ( young entrepreneurs behind today’s hottest brands and franchises.

Topics such as competitive edge of socially responsible businesses, licensing opportunities for retailers, the retailer’s role in advocating a sustainable lifestyle, and transforming employees into brand ambassadors will also be tackled. Plenary session on using an initial public offering (IPO) as a tool for retail business growth will also be covered.
So if you are a retailer, supplier,  manager or CEO of a certain brand or company, I highly recommend that you attend this conference as you will surely learn a lot from the retail  industry’s big key players who will be present to share their insights, knowledge, and opinions on the current status of the retail industry.
The heart of the conference for sure will be the discussion of  topics such as how to gain competitive edge by being socially responsible and the retailers’ important role in advocating a sustainable lifestyle. I would sure love to see more brands living up to the challenge of sustainable growth and living as well as retail companies taking seriously their corporate social responsibility. Hopefully with this year’s conference, we will get to see a lot of companies who will jump to this challenge and succeed in the coming months.
Personally, I want to sit down and listen to the presentation on “Global Brands in Local Shores: How Local Brands Can Compete and Succeed vis-à-vis International Brands.”  I have seen how local retailers and brands have struggled to stay afloat for the past years.  They went as far as hiring the services of foreign models/hollywood stars to represent their brands  and have even resorted to sloppy marketing strategies to highlight their high global affinity (which sad to say failed miserably) in the hope that their products can keep up with high standards  in brand representation set by their foreign counterparts.  Hopefully from this presentation they will be able to gain insights on what proper marketing strategy or tool to employ in order to stay on top of the game despite pressure from international brands. We sure can improve a lot on brand representation as this is one area that most retailers seem to be struggling with.
The topic, Living the Brand: Employees as Brand Ambassadors, also interest me as I recognize the critical role store employees play in selling their product to customers.  As a consumer myself, I will surely come back to a store where employees know their products  well and who can attend to my queries and concerns competently.  Not all sad to say has those kind of employees. As it is, this is one critical area that most retail shops really need to address right now to gain100% costumer satisfaction.
The 21st NRCE is proudly presented by PLDT Alpha Enterprise, SM Department Store, Hewlett Packard, Robinsons Malls, Araneta Center, Ayala Malls, Meralco, IBM Philippines, DHL Supply Chain Phils., Inc., Festival Supermall, Wilcon Depot, Celine, The Philippine Star, BusinessWorld, ABS CBN, Schutzen, Mobext, Inc., Crossover 105.1., Entrepreneur, Focalcast, Q Creatives, Cylix Technologies, Mediamagnet, Catalyst Media, Infinite Grafix, Travel Club, APL Logistics, Avolution, Live Media, Starmall and Bayantel.

Villar Steps Up OFW Support with Livelihood Assistance

In line with its 20th year anniversary, the Villar Foundation is extending livelihood grants to seven overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who sought the help of the foundation through its Sagip-OFW program.
Cynthia Villar, Managing Director of the Villar Foundation, personally met with the seven OFW beneficiaries and handed them the livelihood assistance packages at a simple gathering yesterday at Max’s Restaurant at Starmall, Shaw.
“Many OFWs who are either repatriated or returned to country on their own, have a difficult time restarting their lives here. They need help in the form of jobs and livelihood opportunities. The livelihood assistance we extend to them are just enough to get them started, it is up to them to make their small business grow,” Villar said.
The seven OFWs who received the livelihood packages are: Simeon A. Cerezo, Shally Mar Cruz, Romiely Daguplo, Joanalin Pascua, Joselito V. So, Jovita Tallada, and Jose Gerardo Vasquez. All of whom are former OFWs in the Middle East, except for Tallada who was from Singapore.
“We are aware that it is not enough to repatriate distressed OFWs, we need to help them get reintegrated as productive members of the society. Tinutulungan namin sila sa abot ng aming makakayanan, dahil alam namin ang hirap at sakripisyo na kanilang kinakaharap (We try to help them in every way we can because we know the harships and sacrifices that OFWs are facing),” cites Villar.
Daguplo and Pascua were two of the three OFWs from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) repatriated by the Villar Foundation last May. Daguplo, who is pregnant, said she does not want to be a burden to her mother who is a househelp in Las Pinas. Pascua needs to support her three children. Both OFWs have set up a small carinderia (eatery) and sari-sari store.
Cruz, who was repatriated from Syria in November last year, has just given birth recently and sought assistance to provide for the needs of her newborn child.
The other OFW beneficiaries—Tallada, Cerezo, Vasquez and So—due to their advanced age are having difficulty finding employment . Thus, the livelihood packages will be a source of income that will enable them to support their respective families.
The Sagip OFW program of the Villar Foundation extends various forms of support and assistance to OFWs: repatriation, medical, livelihood, skills-up training, scholarships among others. In November, it will again stage the OFW & Family Summit, which provides livelihood and business opportunities to OFWs and their families. Over 5,000 attended the summit last year. It is in partnership with GoNegosyo. ###

The Great Northern Sale At SM City North Edsa

Good news to shopaholics out there, The Great Northern Sale is happening once again this July and I’ve never been more excited. I am a sucker when it comes to great deals and discounts. I am proud to say that most of my clothes came  from the sales rack. There’s nothing like finding the perfect blouse or pants in unbelievably low price  from a pile of clothes or seeing the dress or shirt you’ve been pinning for for months with a 50% red tag.
My husband always tells me that I become a different person when I enter a mall on sale.  My eyes become sharp and piercing and my mood automatically changes from grouchy to giddy as soon as I start rummaging through piles and racks of clothes.  I am sure a lot of you will agree with me when I say that shopping especially during mall wide sale can bring you to a different kind of high.
I used to suck at shopping during red tag days, but because I was persistent to be good at it, constant practice finally paid off*wink*wink*. I have finally learned the ropes of successful shopping on sale.  I am sharing with you now some shopping tips that help keep my sanity in check and my buying impulse in control during those red tag days at the malls:

  •  Go to the mall early to get the best deals.  Malls on sale become usually  crowded around noon to mid afternoon. That way you’ll also get a good parking space.
  •   Set a realistic budget for yourself before hand. List down how much you are willing to pay for a blouse, pants or shirt, and stick to it.  Don’t bring too much money or all your credit cards as these will just tempt you to spend more. Believe me when I say that when you know that there’s extra  money in your pocket still, you will all the more become loose with your spending especially during sales. You might end up penniless and worst, with a surmountable credit card debt.
  • Shop with a friend who has a good head on her shoulder. A friend who can honestly tell you if its a good buy or not, and a friend who can knock some sense into you when you happen to insist on buying something you don’t even need just because it happens to be on 70% off.
  •  List down all the things you really need at the moment and specifically scout for them while there’s a sale. Purchase only the things that you actually need and will be able to use, otherwise leave to the others who will have better use of it.
  •  Bring only a small bag for your personal belongings and limit the things you will carry with you to just the essentials. That way you wouldn’t have to lug a heavy bag around and still have one arm free to check out stuffs.  It is also best to bring a big eco bag where you can place all your shopping bags so you won’t have to worry about leaving behind or loosing your purchases in the middle of all the excitement.
  • Be mindful of your personal belongings as there are a lot of crooks roaming around during sales looking for things to steal and pokets to picked on.
  • Head straight to your favorite store and brands so you can snag a good deal there first before you move on to the other stores. In my case, I always check out Forever 21, Bayo, Mango and SM Department Store at SM City North Edsa before I head to the others, they always have the best deals during mall wide sale.

So there you go! Let’s hit SM North Edsa on July 13-14-15, 2012 as the Great Northern Sale will happen once again on those dates.  You’ll find major discounts everywhere you look! 70% off on selected brands. Plus you’ll get the most exclusive deals on all brands, stores and dining places. See you all there!

Congratulations to the Winners!

First I want to thank you for joining the random giveaway. More than the joy of sharing my favorite stuffs with you, the thing I enjoyed the most about these random giveaways is that I get to read your thoughts.  I learn so much from you as well.
I wish we can all work together to save all those endangered animals. It’ll be great if all of us will really go out there and will truly involve ourselves in the whole conservation efforts. But then I know that its next to impossible as it takes a lot of money to start a conservation campaign. But in our own little way I know we can still do something. Let’s spread these endangered animals’ stories to other people, let’s share their plights. By making people aware of their present condition, we can make them care too.
I know all of you have been waiting for the announcement of the winners for this random giveaway so I won’t make you wait any longer. Congratulations to our lucky follower/commenter, Ms. Rachel Canales, one of the animal print bags from Rubi is now yours.

Proactiv Solution's New Upgrade Promo

I can’t help but smile everytime I remember the scene I had with my daughter the other day.  She was upset as she stared at herself in the mirror.  She said something to me which goes like, if growing up means having zits all over my face,  then I don’t want to grow up ever. You see, she inherited my husband and I’s oily skin type and she is starting to have breakouts.
I wasn’t blessed with a flawless skin. I had to deal with acne while growing up.  I knew that consulting  a dermatologist costs a fortune and my skin is understandably not in my family’s list top priorities so I dealt with the pesky pimples on my own. I tried different skin products but the thing is, their effects  didn’t last that long, so I kept on changing skin products.  When I gave birth to my daughter, my hormones began to regularized and the acne was completely gone, or so I thought.
Two years ago, I had a bad case of adult acne again. My friend who is a dermatologist recommended Proactiv Solutions to me. They weren’t available here yet at that time or I just wasn’t aware where I can purchase them so I asked my cousin from the States to send me some. It’s combination therapy system worked well for me that now, I absolutely swears by the product. I like how fast acting it is.  This is mainly due to the presence of  micro-crystal benzoyl peroxide in it that gently exfoliates and removes dirt, excess oil and dead skin cells.   It has natural botanicals that proactively clean the face from all impurities and excess oil.  After use, it leaves my face feeling soft, fresh and clean. Plus, it has a money back guarantee which is not available in other skin care products.
I am happy to share that Proactiv Solutions is now readily available in the market today and that you can actually purchase your 30 Day Kit or 60 Day Kit online by logging on to the Proactiv Online Shopping Cart. And what’s more they currently have an Upgrade Promo which is exclusive to Philippine residents only.   If you purchase a Proactiv 30-Day Kit, you will be entitled to upgrade your kit with 1 Proactiv Extension item at 50% discount. And a purchase of a Proactiv 60-Day Kit entitles you to an upgrade of 1 Proactiv Extension item at 60% discount.

Here’s the detailed guidelines on how you can avail of the Upgrade Promo:
1.  Log on to the Proactive website http://my.proactiv.com.ph

Lacoste & Save The Logo + A Giveaway

Aside from ballet shoes and flats, one of the things that I absolutely love are bags. Yep,  I am a certified bagaholic. If I win the lottery, I would probably be at Greenbelt 5 in a heartbeat buying  all the Louis Vuittons, Prada, Channel, and Birkins that I can get my hands on.  For the meantime, while I am wtill awaiting my luck, I am just contenting myself with “shopping” for them at Pinterest. Pinning them there is free! 🙂
One of my favorite bag brands is Lacoste. I love their bags because they are classy and are made of good quality.  My husband knows how much I  love Lacoste bags so he would buy them for me as birthday gifts, my small collection actually came from him. They are a bit pricey  but definitely worth every penny. My Lacoste bags still look as good as new even if I have them for quite a number of years already.

Contrary to popular belief, Lacoste bags and leather goods are made from man made leather and not from crocodile skin. You might be wondering then why the company chose the crocodile to be Lacoste’s logo. Well it was because Rene Lacoste, tennis champion and founder of Lacoste Company himself, was known as “The Crocodile” for his tenacity on the tennis court. He had his animal nickname embroidered on his shirt and from then on, the Lacoste brand was forever linked to the Crocodile.

Last May, Lacoste SA Chairman, Michael Lacoste, Rene Lacoste’s son himself was here. He confessed that though it was not his first time to come to the Philippines as he has been here before for business reasons, this was actually his first time to come here on a mission. He, together with a dozen 2 year old crocodiles, media, and group of environmentalists boarded a truck and headed to San Mariano, Isabela last May 19 to complete his mission.
Mr. Lacoste’s company is part of the international conservation initiative Save The Logo. In the Save The Logo program, companies whose logos featured endangered species are called upon to contribute to the preservation efforts of these species. The 2 year old crocodiles who accompanied Mr. Lacoste belong to the highly endangered species, Crocodylus Mindoremis or Philippine Crocodile. This species is  endemic to the Philippines.  It is projected that they will become extinct in the next ten years if no action is done to preserve and conserve them.  Mr. Lacoste initiated the release of some 12 young crocs in Dunoy Lake in Isabela in the hope that they will soon propagate.

He hopes that with Lacoste’s involvement in the conservation efforts of the Philippine crocodile, much attention will be given to the Mabuwaya Foundation so that they can get  the support of local authorities.  Mabuwaya Foundation is a non-profit organization established by Isabela State University and Leiden University in Netherlands with the aim of protecting the Philippine crocodile and its natural habitat.
Let’s hope that a lot of companies will follow Lacoste’s lead and actively involve themselves in the preservation of endangered species too whether they use them as their logos or not.
Now time for a little giveaway, I got inspired with Lacoste involvement in environmental causes so I am giving away two animal print bags from Rubi (don’t worry, these are canvass bags, they are not made from real animal skin). I will choose the winners via random.org.

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey

It’s been ages since I last sat down and read a book. I do miss reading that is why whenever I get the chance to read, I really make sure that the book is something that I would surely enjoy. Today, I was able to squeeze in some reading time because I happened to see my Grade 2 student reading this particular book. I am a great fan of children’s books as I used to teach in Pre-school before as well as self-help/inspirational books as I have always been fascinated with psychology.  So whenever I see a book that fits both pegs perfectly, I wouldn’t stop until I read that book.  I literally cajoled and begged my Grade 2 student to let me borrow her book, and she reluctantly obliged after I promised her a hundred times that I will return it back tom.:)
The book, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, is a children’s book that teaches the kids the timeless values and principles written in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Penned by Sean Covey, son of Stephen Covey himself, author of the highly acclaimed book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the book contains amusing stories that children 3 years onwards can easily relate to. The stories present the 7 habits that we should help instill in our children for them to reach their full potential and live a well balanced life.

The stories are all well-written, Sean Covey wrote them with so much warmth that children and parents alike can easily relate to them. The illustrations by cartoonist Stacy Curtis are endearingly eye-catching, they made reading the book a pleasurable experience indeed. At the end of each story, guide questions and tips on how to discuss and reinforce the habit are provided, making it easy for parents to relate the habits to their children’s lives for proper application.

I’ve jotted down some notes (remember I just borrowed the book from a 7 years old, I have to give it back!) and I would like to share them with you.  I promised myself that I will buy my own copy so I can hand it down to my daughter when it’s her turn to raise her own kids. Here are the 7 habits in a nutshell:

  • Habit 1: Be Proactive (You’re In Charge).  Teach your children to take charge of  their life–of their own happiness, studies, acivities etc.)
  • Habit 2: Begin With An End In Mind (Have a Plan). Instill in them the habit of having a plan. Teach them that planning ahead leads to good things, including being in a better  position to help others. Encourage them to pick one thing they need to do better and start doing it.
  • Habit 3: Put First Things First (Work First, Then Play).  As parents we must have to learn to delay gratification and encourage our children to do the hard things first. “Do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do.”
  • Habit 4: Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win).
  • Habit 5:  Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood (Listen Before You Talk)
  • Habit 6:  Synergize (Together is Better). We must teach our children synergy, that is valuing differences and then working together to create a better solution than what anyone could do alone. We must teach them to acknowledge each and everyone’s unique’s strength and began playing as a team.
  • Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw (Balance Feels Best). We must teach our children to take time to renew the 4 parts of who we are: body, heart, mind, and soul in order to find balance in our life.

Funny thing is while I was reading the book, I realized that I might as well instill these habits myself as these are habits that can make us adults live a happy life as well. 🙂

Goya Happiness

A couple of weeks ago, I received a packful of goodies from Goya to try. My daughter and I had a field day taste testing everything. I had fond memories of Goya from childhood. Whenever my mom had spare cash from the grocery money, she would buy my sister and I a bar of Goya chocolate which was then wrapped in tin foil and brown packaging.
With the advent of globalization, chocolate sweets that we’ve grown to love such as Goya and Chocnut took a back seat. The chocolate market was manopolized by imported brands like Hershey’s, Tobleron, and M&Ms. I am glad that Goya, which is proudly a homegrown brand, was able to reinvent itself and successfully made a comeback.

Since my palate has grown used to the taste of imported chocolate brands, I was quite surprised and happy to note that the new Goya products taste as good if not better than their imported counterparts. Goya Quadros is at par with Loacker wafers in taste since it has the same perfect cocoa-wafer combination. Goya Bits actually do taste better than M&Ms as they are crunchier and perfect as an in between meals munch. Malt Crunch is less sweet than Malteseers making it a good snack as well. Delfi almond chocolate which has the same good quality as Cadbury almonds, taste good too. Goya milk and white chocolate are up in the league with Hershey’s chocolate, you would even mistake their taste for Van Houtten chocolates. And Pretzels Twists I must say taste better than the other choco pretzels in the market.
I am happy to learn also that Goya has diversified into baking, manufacturing products as well and has released choco syrups, cocoa drinks, and cocoa powder. My mom used the Goya cocoa powder in making champorado and it turned out so good!

Goya is definitely back in the chocolate scene. It made the smart move when it decided to innovate and reinvent itself. Since 1956 it has made our life sweeter through its different product offerings. It is proudly Filipino, a heritage brand indeed lke choc nut. Hopefully we can help make sure that Goya continues to live on and spread the same chocolate happiness in the next generation to come. Next time your chocolate cravings kick in, remember to patronize Filipino products, buy Goya!:)
